GET SET, READY, AND GO!
(CEO'S OFFICE, JUNE 2000 - JUNE 2005)
EXTRACTED FROM MIDROC NEWSLETTER ISSUE NO. 26
MAY-JUNE 2005
DR. AREGA YIRDAW, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, MIDROC ETHIOPIA

The most important challenge faced today by a modern corporate management system is leading companies towards the achievement of their respective established goals as envisaged by all stakeholders. This needs the implementation of collective wisdom of all employees guided by a responsible and illustrative management leadership. Corporate management leaders are expected to organize, set policies and lead companies along core concepts and principles that are closely connected to fundamental visions, missions and values of the business process. Five solid years have elapsed since we started such corporate management endeavor with the establishment of the office of the Chief Executive Officer, MIDROC Ethiopia at "Mechare Meda" in June 2000.

From the very beginning, while setting our corporate objectives, we were not shy of taking calculating risks and take timely actions that help meet the challenges we faced. During the last five years we have been engaged in the creation of such a modern corporate management system based on solid ethical principles, transparency and active participation by all, irrespective of title, position, type of assignment and work place. With the help of our Chairman, we have now reached a stage where we could run eleven companies from a single corporate center.

The Office of the Chief Executive Officer, with the help of its corporate leadership team, has managed to introduce our own "home-grown" manuals on different policies and procedures. The implementation of these policies and procedures with proper follow-up by a value-add auditing process and continuous improvements, enabled us to establish a strong MIDROC Technology Group of Companies. Some organizational structures have been developed, multi-faceted optimization has been exercised, in-house trainings and HIV/AIDS prevention and control programs have been practiced. Additional measures have also been taken to lay the foundation for further expansion and diversification of our business activities. In an effort to discharge our responsibilities of running the companies, all employees acted as a team to the satisfaction of all stakeholders. Today, our corporate management center is leading an exceptionally well energized, customer-focused, result-oriented, growth-based and transparent management system with team-spirited employees. These employees are determined to make their companies a "show-case of success" in a broad-based diversified industry. This spirit will help us positively secure our goal of providing satisfaction to our customers with products and services second to-none.

In the coming five years, our companies are expected to grow more and efficiently implement their respective expansion projects in accordance with their approved plans. Our main focus will center on expansion, growth, modernization and the marketing of production/services that meet known national and international standards that will help us secure our proper market share. Enhancing the use of modern technology and advancement of computerization and networking within the MIDROC Technology Group is another target that we intend to focus on.

Once again we need to get set, ready and go for a new five- year challenge to achieve results quiet different and better than what we have today at the MIDROC Technology Group Corporate Management. With the constant encouragement and closer support of our Chairman Sheik Mohammed Hussein Ali Al-Amoudi, his brothers and family, we will meet the challenges ahead and score new results beyond expectations of our stakeholders. Team work, respect to all and dedicated services will help us achieve more. Therefore, let us GET SET, READY, AND GO!
