SENSE OF CLOSURE
EXTRACTED FROM MIDROC NEWSLETTER ISSUE NO. 29
NOV.-DEC.. 2005
DR. AREGA YIRDAW, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, MIDROC ETHIOPIA

One of the key attributes of a successful performance is the skill and knowledge that is needed to bring every task to a conclusion.

Any person who keeps on opening new files after files without coming to a decision followed by completion of the task runs the risk of becoming inefficient. This contributes negatively to this success and progress of the individual himself/ herself, the team and the company.

Every employee, management and non-management alike, must develop the skill to plan, execute and then close every task. In other words, treat every task as a project, evaluate, plan, take action and then properly close it with the necessary report, note, etc., for possible use as a future reference. A task without closure is a source of inefficiency.

We all need to develop our sense of closure. Good performance and excellent results are just a question of ones ability to master “Sense of Closure”.

A baby’s birth gets completed with more or less a fixed time. There is no mechanism to delay the natural progress towards birth, aside from unnatural interference.

Any task, once started must be completed within a pre-determined period. To achieve this, we need to develop the skill to master what is known as “the Sense of Closure”.
