Sheik Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi has undertaken the Addis
Ababa Park Development Project by earmarking 35 million Birr. The
construction project is expected to be completed within nine to
ten months period.
A foundation stone was laid on 4th October 2003. Present at the
ceremony were Sheik Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi, Arkebe Eqoubai-Mayor
of Addis Ababa City Administration, Dr. Tekeda Alemu-Minister of
State at the MOFA, Alpha Umar Knare-Secretary General of AU and
K.Y. Amako-Executive Director of the UNECA. Also other government
dignitaries, Dr. Arega Yirdaw and other MIDROC Officials attended
the ceremony.
After laying the foundation stone, Sheik Mohammed said it was incumbent
on all citizens to contribute to the growth and beauty of the city.
Mayor Arkebe Eqoubai on his part said the park area will make Addis
Ababa, seat of the African Union and a number of other International
Organizations, very attractive and beautiful city. Mayor Arkebe
called upon all investors in the city to follow suit in contributing
their shares in the effort under way to upgrading the city's standards
and beauty. The Mayor expressed gratitude on behalf of the city
residents to Sheik Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi for covering the entire
cost of the Park Development Project.
The park will have three parts. The first part, which is in front
of ECA will be named "African Park". The second park in
front of Hilton Hotel will be known us "Ethiopian Park"
and the third park in front of Grand Palace will be called "Addis
Ababa Park". The total area of the park is 45,000 square meters
including car parking, bypasses and paths. |
