The Africa park, which is constructed with a total cost of 47
million Birr was officially inaugurated on May 28, 2005 by our Chairman
and owner of MIDROC Ethiopia Sheik Mohammed Hussein Ali Al- Amoudi
together with H.E. Ato Seyoum Mesfin, Foreign Minister, H.E. Ato
Arkebe Equbay, Mayor of Addis Ababa and H.E. MR. Patrick Mazimhako
Deputy Chair Person of the African Union (AU) Commission. Equipping
the park with the necessary facilities would be carried out with
an outlay of over 1.5 million dollars.
The cost of the park is covered by sheik Mohammed Hussein Ali Al-Amoudi,
and the construction work has been carried out by “Luigi Varnero
Construction”.
During the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Arkebe Equbay handed over
to Sheik Mohammed a certificate confirming that the city Administration
had passed over the park to MIDROC management. Our chairman in turn
handed over the key to the park to the Mayor. The park will have
recreational centers, children’s playing ground, restaurants
and open air sites. Trust Protection and Personnel Services, a company
under the umbrella of MIDROC Technology Group, is entrusted to guard
the park.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheik Mohammed said that MIDROC and its
partners, would do their level best to equip the park with all the
necessary facilities that a modern park would require. Our Chairman
added; "The park is a gift for my beloved country and to the
whole of Africa and we will keep on doing our level best to make
Addis Ababa the diplomatic capital of the continent"
Mayor Arkebe on the occasion said: "The Africa Park is an
historic site as it is a place where the founding fathers of the
organization for African Unity (OAU) planted trees to demonstrate
their vision for a united and prosperous Africa.”
Deputy Chairman of the African Union Commission, Patrick Muzmharka
on his part said that the grand park is a gift for all the peoples
of Africa. Ministers, AU commissioners, resident diplomats, religious
leaders and other invited guests attended the inauguration ceremony.
The park would create job opportunities to more than 200 people
when it goes operational. Africa Park occupies 45,000 sq. meters
between the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Grand Palace
on Adwa street. |
