Modern
Building Industries PLC (MBI) is organized under
the Office of the Chief Executive Officer of MIDROC
Ethiopia, and is lead by a General Manager, directly
reporting to the CEO. The company has four Operation
Units: Filler Factory Operation, Paint Factory
Operation, Plastic Tiles Factory Operation and
Concrete Blocks & Tiles Factory; and eight
service units; all of which are managed by qualified
managers endowed with rich experience, and geared
up for company future growth.
In order to facilitate an effective management
of the company, the Management has placed different
Policies and Procedures into practice. Among these
are:

- Financial Services Policy and Procedure Manual
(FSPM)
- Attest Plan
- Materials Management Services Policy and Procedure
manual (MMSPM)
- Organizational Structure Manual (OSM)

- Educational Policy
- HIV/AIDS Policy Manual
All Policy and Procedure Manuals are subject
to change and hence nearly 80 directives have
been released to improve the policies. |

The
company is established to accomplish the following business
purposes:

Establish and operate industrial mineral-based
plants related to cement and cement products, ceramics,
paints, sanitary ware, adhesives, glues, plastic
rubber, terrazzo tiles, cultured marble, for domestic,
commercial and industrial applications;

Establish chemical, metal and foreign market based
woodworks processing plants;

Establish and operate electrical materials manufacturing
plants; and
-
Engage in establishing and operating quarries and
mineral processing plants.

Presently, MBI has three production centers, one in
Akaki - Paints, Plastic Floor Tiles, and Concrete Tiles
& Blocks Factories; another in Awash, where the
Fillers Factory is located, and the third one in Addis
Ababa, Shola, where the Hydraform Blocks and Floor Tiles
Production Plant is operated.
The Awash Non-Metallic Filler Plant has the capacity
of producing about 14,400 tons per annum and has acquired
20,000 sq. meters of quarry land at Harar. The Plant
has started development of its own quarry in order to
ensure supply of limestone boulders. |

The Awash Non-Metallic Filler Plant produces 85% of
its annual capacity. The company expects that consumption
of fillers will be raised in the coming years when projects
of Terrazzo Tiles, Cultured Marble and PVC Tiles materialize.
The PVC, Floor Tiles Factory and Concrete Roof Tiles
& Blocks Factory started commercial production in
mid 2006. |

MBI employs a total number of 300 employees, of whom 262
are permanent and 34 are secondment employees from Trust
Protection & Personnel Services PLC.
Qualification Profile of our employees shows that
all employees are literate with 12.6% Advanced Professional
Degree, 15.0% College Diploma, 9.8% Vocational &
Technical School Diploma, 45.8% High School and 12.9%
Elementary & above. |
