One of the most significant contributions of the Office
of the Chief Executive Officer, MIDROC Ethiopia, to
the growth of modern management system in the country
is its practical engagement in the implementation of
the principles of Corporate Citizenship. Such a social
responsibility is manifested both internally and externally
through different activities.
MBI is actively participating in the activities of
the Corporate Intervention Team on HIV/AIDS (CIT), which
has been organized under the Office of the CEO, MIDROC
Ethiopia, to prevent and control the spread of HIV Virus
among the employees of the MIDROC Ethiopia Technology
Group Companies as well as their family members.
The company is also involved in different social responsibility
activities. It is a member of different Business Associations
such as Ethiopian Manufacturers' Association, Addis
Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Ethiopian Employers' Federation;
and Humanitarian and other Associations such as Ethiopian
Mental Health Society, Children’s Heart Fund of
Ethiopia, and Green & Clean Addis Ababa Association.
These days, industries are facing the challenge to
control pollution within acceptable level. An effective
solution to the challenge of environmental protection
is implementation of Waste Management System according
to the nature of waste discharged by the industries.
MBI's Paints Plant has been relocated to a wider developmental
area, at Akaki, in year 2004 at a cost of Birr 4 Million
to expand its operation and to eliminate the long pending
environmental concern of the company.
In addition to this, the Company has recently instituted
a Functional Safety Committee, which is responsible
for the following activities:

Develop occupational safety and health rules &
policies for the Company and submit same to management
for approval.

Make periodic studies on improving safety rules
and policies of the Company.

Evaluate existing preventive methods, try to resolve
problems, and advise management with solutions.

Study and examine causes of accidents, potential
accident and report to management with solutions.

Appraise need for safety posters and identification
tags and colours in the factory and draw out Capital/Operating
budget/ for the necessary printing of poster and
painting of identification colours on required items.

Organize and structure fire fighting and safety
sub-committees from those employees already trained
in similar activities in the past.
