CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP

One of the most significant contributions of the Office of the Chief Executive Officer, MIDROC Ethiopia, to the growth of modern management system in the country is its practical engagement in the implementation of the principles of Corporate Citizenship. Such a social responsibility is manifested both internally and externally through different activities.

MBI is actively participating in the activities of the Corporate Intervention Team on HIV/AIDS (CIT), which has been organized under the Office of the CEO, MIDROC Ethiopia, to prevent and control the spread of HIV Virus among the employees of the MIDROC Ethiopia Technology Group Companies as well as their family members.

The company is also involved in different social responsibility activities. It is a member of different Business Associations such as Ethiopian Manufacturers' Association, Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Ethiopian Employers' Federation; and Humanitarian and other Associations such as Ethiopian Mental Health Society, Children’s Heart Fund of Ethiopia, and Green & Clean Addis Ababa Association.

These days, industries are facing the challenge to control pollution within acceptable level. An effective solution to the challenge of environmental protection is implementation of Waste Management System according to the nature of waste discharged by the industries. MBI's Paints Plant has been relocated to a wider developmental area, at Akaki, in year 2004 at a cost of Birr 4 Million to expand its operation and to eliminate the long pending environmental concern of the company.

In addition to this, the Company has recently instituted a Functional Safety Committee, which is responsible for the following activities:

  • Develop occupational safety and health rules & policies for the Company and submit same to management for approval.

  • Make periodic studies on improving safety rules and policies of the Company.

  • Evaluate existing preventive methods, try to resolve problems, and advise management with solutions.

  • Study and examine causes of accidents, potential accident and report to management with solutions.

  • Appraise need for safety posters and identification tags and colours in the factory and draw out Capital/Operating budget/ for the necessary printing of poster and painting of identification colours on required items.

  • Organize and structure fire fighting and safety sub-committees from those employees already trained in similar activities in the past.
