MIDROC Gold Mine PLC is organized under the Office of the Chief Executive Officer of MIDROC Ethiopia, and is lead by a General Manager & CEO. The company has four Operation Units: Mine Operations, Heavy/Light Duty Maintenance Operations Metallurgy Operations, Exploration; and seven service units; all of which are managed by qualified managers endowed with rich experience, and geared up for company future growth.

In order to facilitate an effective management of the company, the Management has placed different Policies and Procedures into practice. Among these are:

  • Financial Services Policy and Procedure Manual (FSPM)
  • Attest Plan
  • Materials Management Services Policy and Procedure manual (MMSPM)

  • HIV/AIDS Policy Manual

All Policy and Procedure Manuals are subject to change and hence nearly 80 directives have been released to improve the policies.

BUSINESS PURPOSES  
 
 

The Company is established to accomplish the following business purposes:

  • To engage in mining, exploration, prospecting of gold and other minerals;

  • To engage in the development, production and processing of economic minerals and by-products;

  • To enter into business transaction in the selling and buying of the products both within the local and foreign markets;

  • To perform both field and laboratory studies on all useful minerals so as to determine and ensure the reserve and the extent of the deposit;

  • To engage in shallow and deep drilling operations so as to determine and ensure the reserve quality and depth extent of the deposit;

  • To engage in wholesale or retail selling of gold and other minerals both to foreign and local markets;

  • To engage in the production and importation of equipment consumables and spare parts related to the above operations;

  • To enter into hedging and similar contracts;

  • To construct building and alter buried assets related to mining and exploration activities; and

  • To engage in any other business activities which the Company may think relevant to enhance the above mentioned business purposes of the Company.

OPEN PIT MINE

To effectively exploit the mine, various projects are put into action:

  • PUSHBACK PROJECT: Devised in order to enhance waste removal from the Open Pit.

  • EMULSION PLANT: Devised to mechanize the preparation of emulsion explosive at site.

  • CARBON IN PULP (CIP) PLANT: Project aimed and fully achieved an increase in throughput capacity of the process plant and reduce lose of gold in solution tails.

  • TAILING DAM: Devised to enhance tailing storage capacity and accommodate tails from future production.

FUTURE GROWTH STRATEGIES  
 
 

The company's 5-Year Strategic Exploration Plan has already been put in place and is being implemented. If the exploration programs are proven successful, the strategic plan envisages development of two new mining operations each with a mine life of around 10 years, commencing in the year 2010/11. The underground mine resources are planned to be developed and mined between 2007/08 and 2018.

Presently, MIDROC Gold Mine PLC employs a total workforce of 1,272, of which 860 are permanent and 12 are expatriates working at various capacities. The expatriates are working for the purpose of maintaining the technology and expertise in the industry, and with MIDROC Gold's Human Resources Strategy of knowledge transfer to the nationals. This system has very-well worked so far, and will bear pool of expertise of national for the company; which is also an invaluable asset for the mining sector of the country at large.

MIDROC Gold also employs 109 employees on secondment basis from Trust Protection and Personnel Services PLC.
