CO2 (CARBON DIOXIDE)

Carbon Dioxide Gas is produced in a variety of ways:

• By combustion of materials containing carbon-Coal, Wood, Oil, Foods, etc.
• By fermentation of sugar
• By decomposition of Carbonates under the influence of heat or acids.

At addis Gas & Plastics Factory PLC, CO2 gas is produced by combustion of diesel oil. The CO2 generation plant of the company has a design capacity of producing 250 kg/hr of CO2 gas. CO2 gas from oxidized diesel oil undergoes different chemical processes - scrubbing, stripping, and separation, before it is compressed into high-pressure steel cylinders for final delivery. CO2 gas so produced has 98% purity.

CO2 has wide application:

• Beverage industry: causes the effervescences in carbonated beverage
• Metal fabrication
• Fire extinguisher
• Refrigerant (in ice form), etc.

CO2 gas is filled in seamless steel cylinders at high pressure ranging from 100 to 200 bars. Such cylinders are required to be periodically tested for visual damages, weight loss and loss of elasticity. Such tests are mandatory requirements for safety.

addis Gas & Plastics Factory has a complete set of equipment for conducting a dependable and assured hydraulic test for such cylinders.

Inspection, repair and replacement of valves are done at the factory on regular basis to avoid valve gas leakage during use at customers place as well as during transport, loading and unloading.

OXYGEN GAS (O2)

Oxygen is produced by extraction process from atmospheric air. The oxygen generation plant is so modern and is equipped with atmospheric air feeding system, dryers, filters, Pressure boosting device and filling unit. N2 (Nitrogen) gas is released back to air as a by-product of the process. The O2 gas is filled into a high-pressure cylinder in a similar way to that of the CO2 gas. The filling pressure range is from 100 bar to 150 bar.

In general the possible applications of O2 gas are:

• Steel cutting and welding
• Medical uses as the administration of oxygen to patients
• Fish breading
• Composition air enrichment
• Chemical oxidation processes
• Biological oxidation processes

addis Gas & Plastics Factory's produce of O2 gas is primarily used for steel cutting and welding purpose. Its application to medical purpose is under study. It is mainly a matter of adjusting the purity level in the process to meet medical requirement. Periodical test of cylinder bottles and inspection of valves are mandatory requirements for safety.

The process of forming plastic resins into plastic products is the basis of the plastic industry. Plastic resins must be softened or sufficiently liquefied to get required shapes. Plastics are used extensively by many key industries – automobile, aerospace, construction, packaging, electrical, health etc. Useful properties of plastic include: lightness, non-rusty, manufacturability as different optical medium - transparent, translucent & opaque, and pigmented to a variety of colors. The disadvantage of plastics is that they produce poisonous fumes when burned. (Not applicable if heat resistance is needed).

There are a number of manufacturing processes of thermoplastics:

• Injection molding
• Extrusion
• Blow molding
• Blow film extraction
• Calendaring
• Thermoforming

The Company has got injection molding machines to produce different plastic products – crates, chair, fluid containers, etc.

Injection molding uses a piston or screw to force plastic resin through a heated tube into a mould, where the plastic cools and hardens to the shape of the mould. The mould is then opened and the plastic cast removed.

Thermoplastic is recyclable. The Company has such facility to recycle waste plastics and re-use them in the process of plastics making. This recycling service is also available to outside customers.
